European Market

Heavy fundamentals on European grains at the beginning of the week. USDA and FranceAgrimer bearish estimations still pushing down the market while some wheat support elements disappear.  Return of beneficial rains to Black Sea basin and Australia implying good harvest progression.

At short term, French’s ports still being crowded as announced yesterday by Socomac’s Rouen silos with delivery annulations on soft wheat, same for Senalia in Rouen and Nord-Cereales  in Dunkerque last week.

However, with a euro that was further weakened to 1.0660, the lowest in six months against the dollar, and with the decline over the past few days, French wheat has gained competitiveness  compared to Russian origins whose prices  are near  200 $ / t fob.
Crude oil, which remains heavy with short-term consistent availability, could bounce back above 40 $ / barrel in New York to appear at 42.8 $/ barrel due to geopolitical concerns in the Middle East following the recent attacks in Paris. This did not however sufficient to restart the oilseeds sector.
Palm oil remains particularly affected by the publication last week of the highest monthly Malaysian stocks by MPOB since 15 years ago. Rapeseed oil follows a bearish movement as the grain.

Black Sea market

Ukraine has benefited during last week favorable conditions and culture respite before entry into dormancy. Indeed, temperatures remain soft for the season and rains were recorded in all regions. On weekly scale, these conditions do not allow a real improvement in crop conditions. Indeed, while planting work can be considered completed, 38% of winter cereals surface have not sprouted yet. This problems are observed in the southern regions of the country, such as Nikolayev, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Kharkiv. It is also in the southeastern quarter of the country that the highest falls in sown surfaces were observed; Kherson (60% of intentions), Nikolayev (72%) and Kirovohrad (73% ).
At  15 days forecast , weather for these areas are rarely favorable with rising temperatures. In the southern half of the country, temperatures  can rise to + 17 ° C  next weekend.
Wheat exports are still steady with 300,000 t exported by Ukraine and 470 000 t by Russia.

Have a good day
